Education and Geotechnical EngineeringThe Denny Yasuhara Middle School project consists of the design and construction of a new two-story education facility with an attached gymnasium, athletic fields, and parking areas. The planned development encompasses a total building footprint of approximately 135,000 square feet. The construction is anticipated to consist of a steel and timber superstructure with decorative exterior finishes and slab-on-grade floors (non-basement). STRATA performed a Geotechnical Engineering Evaluation for the project for the purpose of assessing subsurface soil conditions within the proposed project area utilizing exploratory borings and test pits. STRATA’s report contained geotechnical opinions and recommendations for earthwork, stockpile material reuse, shallow foundation design, concrete slab-on-grade floors, lateral earth pressures, pavement section design, and site drainage considerations. STRATA is providing construction materials testing and special inspection during construction. Site visits were performed by a Geotechnical Engineer to provide engineering oversight, subgrade approval, and verification of the completed undocumented fill removal prior to foundation, slab, or structural fill placement in compliance with recommendations provided in our geotechnical report. Our Special Inspectors and Field Professionals are providing on-site observation and testing for earthwork and utility trench backfill, reinforced concrete and structural masonry placements, and structural steel and bolting installation, spray-applied fire stop installation, and asphaltic concrete placement.
