STRATA understands that on the Federal Courthouse Parking Lot Consultation project during the parking lot reconstruction encountered was very soft subgrade soils. Remediation attempts have included the use of a geotextile and geogrid in conjunction with placement and compaction of up to 30-inches of ¾-inch crushed aggregate base. Despite these measures, pumping of the ¾-inch crushed aggregate base section was observed under loaded truck traffic. It was requested that STRATA provide consultation services on remediating the soft/pumping soils present at the site.
GEOTECHNICAL STRATA provided on-site observations of the subgrade. During this time alternate subgrade preparation procedures were established to enable the pavement rehabilitation to proceed. STRATA observed the excavation of four exploratory test pits throughout the construction area.
