We understand the proposed Hawkins Ranch Trailhead improvements will include a vault toilet, gravel and/or paved access road, and parking areas. There will also be an area for horse trailer parking. In addition, we understand it may be necessary to build a new access road from the south entrance, which may require significant earthwork grading with cuts and fills up to 5- to 7-feet. Earthwork grading, benching, compaction, and erosion control recommendations will be required if this new access road is required.
We understand recommendations for a gravel pavement section and a flexible HMA pavement section for access roads and parking areas are needed. In addition, stormwater runoff is planned to be retained and disposed of on-site via subsurface infiltration and will require infiltration testing.
GEOTECHNICAL STRATA provided an engineering evaluation to explore subsurface soil/rock conditions for the proposed improvements as well as recommendations for prepping the site, including the design of a foundation system for a vault toilet, gravel pavement section, flexible hot-mixed asphalt pavement section, stormwater subsurface infiltration, and erosion mitigation.
