On the far east end of Boundary County, situated above the confluence of the Kootenai and the Moyie rivers, the Idaho Forest Group Moyie Springs Mill is nestled among the trees of the vast forest. The Mill has been part of Idaho’s history for the last 6 decades, but unfortunately suffered a rapid earth-flow on two separate occasions in 2018. STRATA was called in to assess the existing rapid earth-flow on the slope along the southern boundary and provide monitoring and slope remediation. The failures that occurred destroyed a section of a service road located around the perimeter of the Mill. The Idaho Forest Group Moyie Springs project consisted of: a geotechnical site investigation; the installation of vibrating wire piezometers (VWP) and a slope inclinometer for monitoring; analysis of local slope stability and recommendations for slope improvements.
