Education and Geotechnical EngineeringDue to the passage of Selah School District’s Facilities Bond, approval meant the construction of a new kindergarten could occur. The building is a single-story, approximate 48,000 square foot structure comprised of masonry perimeter walls supported on conventional shallow-spread footings, wood-framed interior walls, with an earth-supported slab-on-grade concrete floor placed near existing grade. STRATA performed a Geotechnical Engineering Evaluation to assist project planning, design, and construction. STRATA provided geotechnical opinions and recommendations for earthwork activities, shallow foundation design, concrete slab-on-grade floors, lateral earth pressures, asphalt concrete pavement, and site drainage. As the Geotechnical Engineer-of-Record, STRATA provided geotechnical continuity observations, earthwork observation, and testing services during the project. STRATA observed foundation, slab subgrade preparation, and earthwork activities. STRATA also provided soil and aggregate sampling and laboratory testing and performed in-place density testing during fill and backfill placement for foundation walls, slabs (exterior and interior), utilities, drywell installation, and pavements.
