The Advanced Test Reactor (ATR) is a research reactor at the Idaho National Laboratory in Arco, Idaho. The reactor was designed to test nuclear fuels and materials used in power plants, naval propulsion, research, and advanced reactors. STRATA provided geotechnical engineering services for the Maintenance Support Building to assist with project planning, design, and construction.
GEOTECHNICAL STRATA’s scope of services for the geotechnical investigation included a review of project documents, a review of Idaho Dept. of Water Resources well logs, aerial photographs, and previously completed exploration to obtain an understanding of anticipated subsurface conditions, observing the advancement of 15 exploratory borings, performed laboratory testing, and performed engineering analyses to provide geotechnical recommendations for seismic design, earthwork and site preparation, shallow foundations, slab-on-grade design, estimated settlement, site surface drainage, lateral earth pressures, and flexible pavement sections.
