North Idaho Correction Institution Wastewater Improvements

The North Idaho Correction Institution (NICI) Wastewater Improvements, Phase 2 project consisted of reconstructing the wastewater treatment lagoon system near Cottonwood, Idaho. Site redevelopment included adding new settlement and treatment ponds within the existing Lagoon No. 5 area, completely abandoning Lagoons No. 3 and 4, and the geometry re-graded to uniformly slope from the existing Lagoons No. 1 and 2 to the new ponds. In addition, lagoons No. 1 and 2 were re-lined with a geosynthetic fabric as part of the site improvements.

GEOTECHNICAL STRATA performed geotechnical engineering services to assist the civil engineering design firm design the treatment and settling pond geometry, layout, and piping system. STRATA’s report included geotechnical design and construction recommendations for earthwork, lagoon slope stability, lagoon embankment settlement, shallow foundation design, and concrete slab-on-grade floors.
